The India Today Woman Summit 2017 Awards took place at ITC Maurya, Delhi on friday. The day-long Summit is all about discussing issues related to women empowerment and societal reforms to strengthen the position of women. The gender equality activists and reformist debated if there is ever going to be a Uniform Civil Code of Conduct in India.
They talked about several topics about the serious issues of Society. The summit starts with WELCOME ADDRESS – Men can never be like women by Kallie Purie
Followed by the topic, BATTLING BIAS | WHY WOMEN WON’T SHUT DOWN, SHUT UP – Gender is not so much of an issue in politics anymore by K Kavitha. Other speakers of the session were Supriya Sule(NCP MP from Maharashtra), Meenakshi Lekhi(BJP MP from Delhi), Sushmita Dev(Congress MP from Assam), Praniti Shinde(Congress MLA from Maharashtra), K Kavitha(TRS MP from Telangana)
RIGHT TO PRAY | ARE WOMEN CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD?
When all are born out of a woman, how can she be considered impure by Trupti Desai. The Speakers were Zakia Soman, Founder of Bhartiya Muslim Mahila Andolan; Sharifa Khanum Founder, STEPS and Trupti Desai, the Civil rights activist.
Actor Shahid Kapoor is the only male invited in the summit. He gave 30 mins long speech on women empowerment in the film industry and insights into how a feminist man’s mind works.

WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS | MAKE LOTS OF LEMONADE – The session was discussed by Paralympic Games champion, Deepa Malik; Human rights activist, Neelam Katara; Laxmi Saa Acid attack survivor, campaignerfor “Stop Acid Attack”; Mumtaz Shaikh, Women rights activist, launched “Right to Pee” movement; Dipa Karmakar, Olympic gymnast; and Poonam Muttreja, Executive Director, Population Foundation of India, Co-creator of Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon.

And the summit wrapped up with the Guest Of Honour, Hema Malini’s who presented the INDIA TODAY WOMAN AWARDS.
