    Among the various fairs in Punjab, Sodal Mela is the one which is celebrated with great pomp and show.  This is organized in order to pay homage to a great Soul of Punjab, Baba Sodal.   The fest of Baba Sodal is organised in the month of September in the various cities of Punjab.  People from the various parts of the world visit Punjab to attend the fest.  Baba Sodal was a member of Chadha clan of Khatri caste born in the city of Jalandhar.

    The religious importance associated with the festival makes this popular worldwide.      With a belief, mud is extracted every year that by doing so Baba Sodal will appear on the day of Trydashi. On this auspicious day, Kasar is made which is offered 14 times slowly. On the night before the fair, the whole Chadha clan sows ‘Khetri’ in the name of Baba Sodal, as a traditional so that the clan remains happy and prosperous.

    This day occupies great importance in the lives of woman, as they pray and fast for the wellness of their family and kids.  On the Samadhi of Baba Ji, the fair took place.  This has great significance and people visit here to seek blessings of Baba Sodal. The place is decorated with rosaries and flowers to make the commemoration of the heavenly descent of Baba Sodal memorable.  Near the Samadhi of Baba Ji, there is a tank, where devotees take a dip in the holy water to purify their souls.

    The fair lasts for a single day and the people from all over the Punjab engage themselves in the celebrations.  In the early hours of the morning, people gather and pray for the happy and prosperous life.  The city of Jalandhar, in Punjab, is famous for celebrating this festival on a large scale.
