    Guru Ram Das Jayanti is one of the most important festivals of Sikh religion which is celebrated on a large scale in every part of the world by Sikh Community.   The fourth Guru of the Sikhs, he was born in Lahore and became the disciple of Shri Guru Amar Das Ji, the third guru of Sikhs.  Throughout his life, he gave a message and inspired people to live a life of compassion, humility, integrity and service.

    Among the devotees, he is popularly known as the Lord of Miracles. People with full enthusiasm organised the birth ceremony of the fourth guru of the Sikhs.  On 9th October, we celebrate the birthday of Guru Ram Das Ji and recite his shabad ‘Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru’ for 2 ½ hours in the Amrit Vela. In various gurudwaras, a large event is organised; Nagar Kirtans and distributing langar are some of the activities that are performed in order to bring all the people together.

    It’s not only the Sikh community, the birthday of Guru Ram das Ji is celebrated with great joy by different communities as well as by the nation.  He was famous for his teachings and also because he founded the Amritsar City.   Sikhs from the various parts of the world join at one place to take part in the events and spread the message of peace, love and unity. A group of Granthis and people perform Rehras and sing hymns of Guru Ram Das Ji related to the greatness of Guru Ram Das Ji.

    Well, it was started 11 days prior 9th October, where all the devotees gather at each member’s home for cozy evenings of prayer, meditation, food and fellowship. All this celebration ends up on 9th October, making people look Guru Ram Das Ji for guidance, healing, and protection.

    With pomp and fervour, this occasion is observed across the world. Every year gurudwaras are adorned with beautiful and colourful lights to organise the birthday of Guru ji in an exuberant manner.  In order to reflect the festive atmosphere all over, numerous religious activities are conducted. Even at the times of marriages, his hymns are sung at various places.
