    The festival of Giaravahin Sharif is celebrated in the honour of Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani an ancient Muslim saint of Baghdad. He is believed to be the direct descendant of Prophet Mohammed and is highly respected by Muslims for his spirituality and for his teachings and sayings. The festival of Giaravahin Sharif celebrated on the eleventh day of the Muslim month of Rabi-us-Sani.

    Abdul Qadir Jilani

    According to Islamic history Shaikh Mohyuddin Abdul Qadir Jilani who was the grandson of Prophet Mohammed. He was born in Gilan an Iranian village. Abdul Jilani was reknowned for his kindness and honest character and it is because of his mother influence which results in building his character. Abdul Jilani had great knowledge of religion and was a great orator too, people loved to hear him all the time. They have many followers from distant places also. His followers address him with name Ghaus-i-Azam, which means Great Help. The death of Abdul Qadir Jilani happened in 1166 of the Christian era. His mausoleum is preserved in Baghdad and draws a large number of visitors every year.


    In the memory of Abdul Qadir Jilani people celebrate the festival by offering prayers, sweets and flowers . The festival is specially celebrated by the Sunni sect of Islam.
