Eid al-adha also known as Eid-ul-Zuha and Bakra Eid is one of the most popular Muslim holiday celebrated worldwide with great zeal. It is way of Muslim community to thanks Allah for one’s good fortune. Eid al-Adha begins after the peak of the holy pilgrimage ‘Hajj’ at Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Eid al-Adha mostly celebrated on 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah and lasts for four days. While in Global calendar, the dates vary from year to year with a mere difference of 11 days earlier each year. As per the tradition goats and sheeps are being sacrificed on this day. Muslim people feel that it’s there prior duty to ensure that each and every Muslim can enjoy the meat as a meal during this holiday.

    Why It Is Celebrated?

Every festival is associated with a historic event, same goes with Eid ul-Zuha. According to Islamic tradition, this day is celebrated to pay respect to Abraham (Ibrahim) willingness to sacrifice his two sons as an act of submission to God’s command. God was testing the Abraham willingness to carry out his command and he passed it successfully. God asked him to sacrifices a sheep instead of his sons.

    How It Is Celebrated?

The day started with offering prayers to God in Mosque by men. Women also offer their prayers at the mosques. The prayers can be offered any time after the sun completely rises up to just before the entering of Zuhr time. People get dressed well for the occasion and gathered in an open place called Eidgah. After that the Muslim families sacrifice their best domestic animal such as goat, cow, camel, sheep etc as per their affluence. Then the slaughtered meat is divided into three major parts : one for the family, one for the relatives and neighbors and the third one for poor Muslim families who are not that much prosperous to celebrate the festival.

Overall, the festival binds the people together, spread the message to help poor and love everybody. It make people believe strongly that the almighty God(Allah) is always there to take care of their loved ones in their bad times and to bless them with happiness and prosperity.
