Presently Indian Skipper Virat Kohli is one of the most marketable athletes in the country, however, he makes it clear that these numbers will never have an impact on his performance. For the Indian skipper, playing at his best is what he dreams about achieving and he makes it clear that he is focused on taking Indian Cricket team to new heights.
When it comes to the most marketable athlete in India, Kohli said that he was never in a race with MS Dhoni, the previous Indian Skipper or Sachin Tendulkar, the legend. He further said, “With an increase in the cash flow, there is bound to be progress and the next generation will see cricketers making more money than this. My brand value should be somewhere in the region of USD 120 million. But these are just numbers for me. It is not something that I strive for. It is just a by-product of something that I do in my professional career and the focus always remains that.”
He further added,
“I can’t really pinpoint it to anything. Also, you need to understand where the commercial market is going. In general, the money has increased in the sport, the money has increased with brands, so there is always going to be a progress.”
Kohli understands that he is a role model for youngsters and is well versed with the responsibility that comes along with it. He also said that he endorse products that he himself use.
“Few brands that I have endorsed in the past, now I feel that I don’t connect well with that anymore. If I don’t consume those things then I won’t want to promote it for others to consume just because I am getting money out of it. If I am endorsing a brand I would want to do it in the right way,”
Lately, Kohli has been planning to start his own sporting line and thus have taken up endorsements. The deal with Puma has seen the Brand Kohli reach new heights. Kohli is known for his impeccable dressing skills and the idea to start the brand was to help people try different things.
