Vulnerable tribal groups to get food delivered at their door steps (3rd April to 30th April)
Jharkhand’s primitive tribes will now get food at their door steps. The state government on 3rd April launched its ambitious food post scheme, the first of its kind in the country, for 70,000 families of particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs) enrolled under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). By delivering food through special messengers, the government aims to check malnutrition and hunger deaths among these tribes. The scheme will cover the all tribal groups by 30th April.
West Bengal gets its first surgical ICU (6th April)
Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital has become the first government hospital in the state to have a surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU).The 20-bed surgical ICU is designed to serve a diverse group of critically ill patients and those in need of surgery. It will be especially useful in handling cases of accident victims who need to undergo complex operations like organ transplants etc., to be taken care of by specialists.
Bengal gets 23rd district: West Burdwan (7th April)
West Burdwan district was carved out of Burdwan on 7th April by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, making it the 23rd district.Addressing the inauguration programme of the new district, Mamata said that people of the district do not have to go to Kolkata any more for administrative work. “Every year, April 7 will be celebrated as the birthday of Paschim (West) Bardhaman district,” she said.
Vidya Balan to be brand ambassador of Jharkhand’s silk (8th April)
Bollywood actor Vidya Balan will be the brand ambassador of silk materials produced in Jharkhand.She agreed to become the brand ambassador after Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das told her that it would help people engaged in silk production. Besides Balan, Begam Jan director Sirijit and producer Mahesh Bhatt were also present in Ranchi on 8th April.
Eye on Odisha, BJP’s next national executive in Bhubaneswar (14th-16th April)
After thumping win in UP and Uttarakhand, BJP is aiming for 2019 Lok Sabha polls. And they are starting with Bhubaneswar. The party's two-day national executive meeting will be held on April 15 and 16 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance on both days. Top BJP leaders, led by party chief Amit Shah, will be in Bhubaneswar for three days, beginning with the meeting of office bearers on April 14.This will see BJP's first national executive meet in Bhubaneswar after 20 years.
Repolling At 14 Places in Odisha (19th April)
The State Election Commission (SEC) finalised April 19 as the date for repolling in the 14 places where the three-tier panchayat polls were stalled due to death of contestants. Polling will be held from morning 7 o’clock to 12 noon and counting will start from 1 pm. Names of winners will be declared on April 20.
